About
An independent look at health across Texas
Mission
MedEquity gives equal weight to two goals: explaining health conditions in clear, well-sourced language, and making county-level health data explorable in a way that is scientifically responsible — honest about uncertainty, missing values and the limits of what county data can show.
The site is built for the general public, students, educators, researchers and health professionals.
Why Texas counties
Texas has 254 counties spanning large cities, suburbs, border communities and some of the most rural areas in the United States. County-level views help show how health measures, access to care and social context differ across the state — while county averages never describe any individual person.
Education and research goals
- Publish a reviewed library of plain-language articles across eight health categories.
- Map documented, verified indicators for every Texas county, with clear handling of missing and suppressed data.
- Offer careful comparison and correlation tools that report sample sizes, exclusions, assumptions and limitations.
- Keep methods, sources and corrections public.
